Around the water

Concrete pool decks with a finish that is not slick when wet

A pool surround takes constant water and bare feet. That is exactly the job an exposed aggregate wash finish was made for, and it is the finish we recommend around water.

Scope

Pool Decks & Surrounds in and around Memphis

Concrete decks and walkways around in-ground and above-ground pools, poured with a washed exposed aggregate finish for grip.

What we pour

  • Full decks around in-ground pools.
  • Walkways and aprons around above-ground pools.
  • Replacement of cracked or slippery existing pool surrounds.
  • Pads for pumps, filters and pool equipment.

Why a wash finish around a pool

  • Washing the cement paste off exposes the stone and leaves a grippy surface.
  • It stays cooler underfoot than a smooth troweled slab.
  • It hides splash marks and general pool traffic far better than a slick finish.
  • It shapes well around a curve, which most pool decks need.

FAQ

Questions about pool decks

Is exposed aggregate rough on bare feet?

It has texture, which is the point, but a properly timed wash leaves the stone rounded and smooth rather than sharp. It is a very common pool deck finish for exactly that reason.

Can you work around an existing pool without damaging it?

Yes. We protect the coping and the water line and we place by chute, buggy or wheelbarrow depending on how tight the access is.

Do you charge for estimates?

No. Estimates are free, every time, with no obligation. Call or text (469) 334-7552 and we will come out and price the job.

What does a concrete driveway cost in Memphis?

It depends on the square footage, the thickness, whether there is an old slab to tear out and haul away, how difficult the access is and which finish you choose. That is why we look at it in person rather than quoting a number over the phone. The estimate is free either way.

Do you reinforce your concrete?

Yes. Rebar and wire mesh go into our pours as standard, tied and chaired off the ground so the steel sits inside the slab where it does its job. Reinforcement is the difference between concrete that cracks and stays put and concrete that cracks and separates.
