The original walk had cracked into pieces and the concrete steps up to the porch had lost their edges. On a house this age the entry is the first thing anybody sees, and it had become the worst looking part of it.
What we did
The old steps came out with a jackhammer and the broken walk was loaded straight into the trailer and hauled off. We rebuilt the step forms over a compacted gravel base with equal risers, then formed a wide curved walk to meet them so the entry reads as one piece instead of two.
The finish
Broom finish across the direction of travel on both the treads and the walk, so it holds grip in the rain. The curve was bent into the timber on site rather than stepped around in straight segments.
